ON EDITING
Each type of editing is conducted separately. I do not provide all three in one sitting. When I am content editing, I do not copy edit, and vice versa. Keep in mind that no editor will catch everything. It is critical that you have your manuscript edited at least once under each stage of editing--that is three edits of your work; ideally by three different editors. For example, if I do content editing, I suggest you have a different editor for your copy editing. If I do copy editing, I suggest you use another editor for content editing. I am more than able to do all types of editing for you, but I strongly suggest that you have another editor also look at your work. In the publishing world with major publishing houses, a manuscript is typically seen by no less than four types of editors who review it more than once in its various stages.
The first step is always content editing. This ensures the story makes sense and is strong enough to engage readers. Next is copy editing, to clean up any issues with the mechanics of the work; grammar and such. And the final stage is proofreading, which is typically done when the manuscript is in the layout stage.
SOME TIPS
* Ask questions about editing. Write them down if need be.
* If you are unclear about something you've already asked about, ask again.
